Matt Damon – a 50-year-old man that works in Hollywood – has only just stopped using the slur ‘faggot’ after his daughter educated him.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Damon said that he used “the most taboo term for gay people”. It’s not a taboo you imbecile, it’s a hate-slur.
“I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter,” he continued.
“She left the table. I said: ‘Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie Stuck on You!’” he said, referring to a film that came out nearly twenty years ago.
“She went to her room,” he continued, “and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous.
“I said: ‘I retire the f-slur!’ I understood.”
Which sounds like he expects a round of applause.
And this is precisely why the LGBTQ community don’t want bonehead heterosexuals to tell their stories (Damon played gay in Behind The Candelabra) because they often don’t respect, and can never understand our struggle.
There is, of course, the right to use the slur if you are one. Have you got something to tell us, Matt? As there’s definitely been a rumour or two… maybe one doth protest too much.
