In yet another terrifying assault on the LGBT+ community, a gay couple have been brutally attacked by a group of men in Edinburgh, Scotland.

A married couple were walking Leith Street on July 31st when they were approached by four men who beat them, spat on them, and called them homophobic slurs. The attack resulted in one of the men being pushed in front of a speeding car, which thankfully he wasn’t hit by. It’s also reported that the men stole a bag from the couple before running off.

The two were later treated at a nearby hospital.

A witness – who filmed the attack – claims that “The victim came straight over, thanked me and I asked if he was okay. There was blood on the ground. He burst into tears and I held him as he sobbed so hard into my chest.”

“He told me he did not know why they did it to him.”“He told me he did not know why they did it to him.”

The Edinburgh News reports:

The witness said no one tried to intervene – and drivers failed to stop – during the incident but said they could understand why, having personally been assaulted on a previous occasion when they tried to step in to stop an unprovoked attack.

“The boys were laughing, egging each other on and calling the victims p**fs. Another girl (at the scene) heard them say p**fs explicitly,” added the witness.

He also claims that other bystanders were laughing and videoing the attack.

The images published in the paper show men kicking a man while he’s on the ground, and you – like us – might be questioning why exactly they’ve blurred the faces of these scum bags, and apparently, it’s “under the Contempt of Court Act 1981. Witnesses must be able to come forward and identify suspects without being influenced by what they see in the press.”

OK… but why do you need first-hand accounts from witnesses when you’ve got video footage of it happening? Just show their faces so they can be identified and then arrest them.
