It’s easy to fall into a Royal obsession, (we all have that one friends who’s fascinated with every detail), especially when they have an advocate for gay rights in their family tree.

Princess Diana was very open and vocal about her support of LGBTQ issues, and though Prince William appeared on the cover of Attitude and Harry has also be supportive, nobody has had our back quite like her.

But things could soon be changing, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stated that the “basic human rights” of LGBTQ people were going to be a primary concern. The couple met with delegates of the Commonwealth Youth Forum in Australia.

Speaking to Jacob Thomas, who won a Queen’s Young Leader Award for helping to reduce the suicide rate amongst the LGBTQ community, Meghan said:

“This is a basic human rights issue, not one about sexuality,” a sentiment which was backed up by Harry.

Thomas told People: “Prince Harry said that what was so amazing was that 10 or so years ago, we wouldn’t have been having this conversation and how incredible it was that we now were.”

It’s reported that the couple plan to prioritize LGBTQ charity work after their royal wedding.

“Both Prince Harry and Miss Markle said they would put LGBT issues at the front of their work,” Jonah Chinga, an LGBTQ activist from Kenya, told reporters.
