The new series of Monster is causing a landslide of controversy, with Ryan Murphy coming under fire for his portrayal of Lyle and Erik Menendez.

The brothers, who famously killed their parents in 1989, claimed they had been sexually molested by their father before shooting him and their mother.

Viewers specifically had problems with the incestuous overtones between Erik and Lyle, that the family have lambasted as “not true”. In one scene, Erik and Lyle’s mother walks in on them soaping each other up in the shower.

While some have decided to boycott the show altogether, others have taken to social media to note Murphy’s patterns of “exploitative” and “beyond problematic sexual lens”.
